Nettle, also known as scorpion grass, is a plant belonging to the genus *Urtica* in the family Urticaceae. Nettle has the effects of dispelling wind and clearing the meridians, calming the liver and relieving convulsions, eliminating food stagnation and promoting bowel movements, and detoxifying. It is mainly used to treat rheumatic pain, postpartum convulsions, infantile convulsions, sequelae of poliomyelitis, indigestion, constipation, urticaria, and other symptoms. Besides its medicinal uses, the stem bark fiber of nettle provides raw materials for textiles and is rich in chlorophyll, which can be used as a dye; it also has health benefits and can be eaten as a vegetable.
Anti-allergic and skin-protective effects: Nettle extract exhibits significant anti-allergic activity, alleviating allergic reactions by inhibiting hyaluronidase activity.
Promoting bone repair and regeneration: Nettle extract can promote periosteal cell proliferation and induce their differentiation into osteoblasts, making it a promising natural inducer in bone tissue engineering.
Antiviral and metabolic regulation effects: Studies show that the 95% ethanol and water extracts of nettle have certain anti-influenza virus effects. In addition, it also possesses a wide range of pharmacological activities, including antioxidant, hypoglycemic, and lipid-regulating effects.
Rheumatism and Osteoarthritis Health Products: Used in the production of health supplements and pharmaceuticals to relieve symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and osteoarthritis. Mature products are already available in Europe. It is also commonly used as an adjunct treatment for joint swelling and pain, muscle aches, and gout.
Skin Care and Anti-allergy Products: Added as a functional ingredient to skincare or personal care products for anti-allergy, soothing, and improving urticaria. Utilizing its anti-inflammatory and swelling-reducing properties, it is used to relieve redness and itching after insect bites.
Traditional Medicine and Daily Health Care: Used in traditional medicine for internal decoctions to treat rheumatic pain, postpartum convulsions, infantile convulsions, and digestive tract diseases. In recent years, it has also been developed for use in modern health foods to help regulate blood sugar and blood lipids.
