What is ECTOINE?     

      Ectoin, scientific name tetrahydromethylpyrimidine carboxylic acid, is an amino acid derivative derived from halophilic bacteria. It was first discovered in 1985 by German scientist Professor Galinski in the Egyptian desert salt lake. This ingredient is a natural protective ingredient produced by desert halophilic bacteria in extreme environments, used to cope with harsh environmental conditions such as high temperature, dryness, strong ultraviolet radiation and high salinity.

     Ectoin has a unique high-polarity molecular structure, which gives it a strong ability to complex water molecules and form a "hydration shell" around cells and proteins, similar to a stable protective film, thereby reducing water loss from the skin. Its chemical formula is C6H10N2O2, with a melting point of approximately 381.5±35.0°C, and can be dissolved in water to 250 mg/mL (1758.58 mM) .
