Kudzu flavonoids are flavonoids found in the perennial legume kudzu root. They are the main active ingredient in the traditional Chinese medicine kudzu root. Melting point: 187-189°C.
The composition of kudzu flavonoids is quite complex, including puerarin, daidzein, daidzeinogen, daidzein, 4,7-diglucosyldaidzein, 3-methyl-puerarin, 7-xylose-puerarin, and other isoflavones. It also contains hydroxypuerarin, methoxypuerarin, triterpenoids, coumarins, etc.
High concentrations occur as white needle-like crystalline powder, belonging to the flavonoid class.
Kudzu root includes wild kudzu root and powdered kudzu root, both containing kudzu flavonoids. However, in southern regions, powdered kudzu root is more common, containing less flavonoids and is generally used for starch extraction. The largest kudzu root producing area in northern China is Shaanxi, where wild kudzu root is primarily used for flavonoid extraction. The puerarin content in wild kudzu root is generally between 2% and 6%.
Puerarin is widely used as a raw material or additive in health products.
