Vitex trifolia fruit, a traditional Chinese medicine, is the dried, mature fruit of Vitex trifolia L. var. simplecifolia Cham. or Vitex trifolia L., both belonging to the Verbenaceae family. It is used to dispel wind-heat and clear the head and eyes.
It mainly contains flavonoids (Vitexin, Vitexin, Vitexin, Luteolin, Vitexin, etc.); fatty acids (palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linolenic acid); and volatile oils.
Relieving Colds: Vitex trifolia is effective in treating a range of symptoms associated with wind-heat colds. It is often combined with Ligusticum chuanxiong and Angelica dahurica.
Improving Eye Discomfort: It has a clearing effect on eye problems such as red eyes, blurred vision, and excessive tearing. It is suitable for red and swollen eyes caused by liver fire, or eye strain caused by prolonged eye strain.
Modern research suggests that its flavonoid components help improve retinal microcirculation.
