      Glucosamine, also known as glucosamine, has a chemical formula of C6H13NO5. It is a natural amino monosaccharide essential for the synthesis of proteoglycans in the matrix of human joint cartilage and is the first natural amino monosaccharide to have its structure determined. GlcN is a derivative formed by replacing the hydroxyl group (-OH) on the alpha carbon atom of the glucose molecule, which is attached to the aldehyde group (-COH), with an amino group (-NH2).

For example, human milk contains small amounts of free glucosamine, but most of it exists in the form of acetylamino groups.
