Gallic acid is a naturally occurring polyphenolic organic acid with the chemical formula C₇H₆O₅. Widely found in plants such as Chinese nutgalls, tea leaves, and various fruits, it possesses antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties and is commonly used in the pharmaceutical, food, and chemical industries.
It appears as a white to pale yellow crystalline powder; it is sparingly soluble in water but soluble in organic solvents.
