Zinc L-carnosine 

What is Zinc L-carnosine?   

Zinc carnosine is a stable complex formed by the chelation reaction of the amino acid compound L-carnosine and zinc ions. This structure retains the antioxidant and anti-glycation properties of carnosine while combining the antibacterial and repair functions of zinc, resulting in a synergistic effect. The zinc ions in its molecular structure coordinate with the imidazole ring and carboxyl group of carnosine, ensuring its stability under physiological pH conditions and enabling targeted delivery to the dermis or inflamed areas of the skin. This complex has special value in the pharmaceutical, skincare, and functional food fields, particularly excelling at addressing issues related to tissue repair and microbial balance.

 

Feature

Synergistic Antibacterial and Anti-inflammatory Effects: Zinc ions disrupt bacterial cell membrane integrity and inhibit biofilm formation, while carnosine inhibits the release of inflammatory factors by regulating the NF-κB signaling pathway. The synergistic effect of these two agents increases the inhibition rate against Propionibacterium acnes  to 2.3 times that of single-agent application, while simultaneously reducing tissue redness and swelling.


Protein Structure Protection: Carnosine competitively binds to protein glycosylation sites, preventing the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), while zinc ions stabilize the triple helix structure of collagen. Experiments show that this complex reduces skin collagen glycation damage by 42% and the rate of elastic fiber degradation by 35%.


Cellular Renewal Regulation: By activating metallothionein synthesis, it enhances the migration ability of keratinocytes, optimizing the epidermal turnover cycle to a normal 28-day level. Simultaneously, it regulates matrix metalloproteinase-1 activity, maintaining the structural integrity of the dermal matrix.


Applications

Acne Treatment:Used as a core ingredient in prescription acne treatments, its antibacterial effect is comparable to clindamycin but without the risk of drug resistance. Combined with microneedling, it reaches deep into the hair follicles, shortening the time it takes for inflammatory papules to heal.
