Pullulan Powder

What is Pullulan Powder?    

Pullulan is an extracellular, water-soluble, mucopolysaccharide similar to dextran and xanthan gum, produced by the fermentation of Brachystomata. Pullulan is a water-soluble mucopolysaccharide, and the finished product is a white solid powder. Because it can be biodegraded and utilized by microorganisms in nature and does not cause environmental pollution, it is hailed as a pollution-free plastic.

Feature

Excellent Film-Forming and Barrier Properties: Pullulan solution, after drying, forms a transparent, flexible, and dense film with significantly superior barrier properties against oxygen, oils, and aromas compared to many natural polysaccharides. The film exhibits good mechanical strength without the need for plasticizers.


High Water Solubility and Low Viscosity: It readily dissolves in cold water to form a low-viscosity solution, suitable for spraying, dipping, and other processing techniques without affecting product texture. Its solution is stable, heat- and acid-resistant, and not decomposed by human digestive enzymes.


Biodegradable and Environmentally Friendly: Pullulan can be completely decomposed into carbon dioxide and water by various microorganisms in the environment, exhibiting no ecotoxicity. Its raw material is renewable starch, and the production process is green, meeting the requirements of sustainable development.


Adhesive and Forming Auxiliary Functions: It possesses excellent adhesive properties and can be used as a binder for solid dosage forms such as tablets and feed. The coating or capsules formed after drying can have precisely controlled thickness and dissolution rate.
