Cimicifuga is a plant belonging to the genus *Cimicifuga* in the family Ranunculaceae. It is a perennial herb, reaching up to 2 meters in height, with a stout rhizome and pubescent branches. Its leaves are bipinnately compound, two to three times pinnately compound, with rhomboid or ovate leaflets that are shallowly lobed and have irregular serrations. The inflorescence is branched, densely covered with gray glandular hairs and soft hairs; the sepals are white; the staminodes are broadly elliptic, slightly concave or shallowly lobed at the apex, numerous, densely covered with gray soft hairs, and have short stalks; the follicles are densely covered with gray soft hairs. Flowering occurs from July to September; fruiting from August to October.
The native range of Cimicifuga is from Siberia to Korea; in China, it is distributed in Tibet, Yunnan, Sichuan, Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, and Shanxi provinces. It is mostly distributed in relatively arid and infertile soil environments. It is not particular about soil type and can grow in various soils, but prefers high light intensity and often grows on shady or sunny slopes near forests. It is generally propagated by seeds and has strict temperature requirements.
This plant was collected from the wild.It is sometimes planted in gardens as an ornamental plant. Cimicifuga can be eaten fresh, or the young stems can be processed and eaten; it has a refreshing aroma and a slightly bitter taste. The young leaves can also be used in salads, stir-fries, or as fillings for main dishes, and have high nutritional value.
