What is  Ferrous Gluconate Powder?   

Ferrous gluconate is a yellowish-gray or light yellowish-green crystalline granule or powder with a slight caramel odor. It is soluble in water, with a 5% aqueous solution being acidic, and almost insoluble in ethanol. Its theoretical iron content is 12%. As a food additive, it can be used as a color-protecting agent for pickled vegetables.

Feature

Highly Effective in Correcting Iron Deficiency Anemia: The ferrous iron (Fe²⁺) in ferrous gluconate is a direct raw material for the synthesis of hemoglobin in the human body. It can be efficiently absorbed by the small intestinal mucosa through both active transport and passive diffusion. It can rapidly increase serum ferritin levels and hemoglobin concentration, effectively improving anemia and related symptoms (such as fatigue, paleness, and dizziness) caused by iron deficiency.


Participating in Energy Metabolism and Immune Function: Iron is a cofactor for key enzyme systems such as cytochromes and catalase, participating in cellular energy metabolism and redox processes. Sufficient iron is crucial for maintaining lymphocyte proliferation and differentiation, neutrophil bactericidal ability, and is essential for normal immune function.


Supporting Cognitive Development and Thermoregulation: As a cofactor for the synthesis of various neurotransmitters in the brain (such as dopamine and serotonin), iron plays an important role in children's neurocognitive development and the maintenance of adult brain function. It also participates in the synthesis of thyroid hormones, indirectly affecting basal metabolic rate and thermoregulation.


Applications

Iron-fortified foods and supplements: As nutritional fortifiers, these are added to foods such as flour, cereals, milk powder, and beverages according to standards to prevent population-wide iron deficiency. They are also formulated as tablets, capsules, and oral liquids for daily supplementation in individuals with existing iron deficiency anemia or at high risk of iron deficiency (such as pregnant women, infants, adolescents, and women).


Therapeutic iron supplements: As prescription or over-the-counter medications, these are used to treat confirmed iron deficiency anemia. The dosage is usually higher than preventative supplementation, and treatment must be administered under the guidance of a physician. They are particularly suitable for patients who cannot tolerate the gastrointestinal irritation caused by inorganic iron salts such as ferrous sulfate.
