製品の説明

What is Mint Leaf Extract?

Mint (scientific name: *Mentha canadensis* L.) is a perennial herb belonging to the genus *Mentha* in the family Lamiaceae. It is also known as southern mint or wild mint. The stem is erect, 30-60 cm tall; leaves are oblong-lanceolate, lanceolate, elliptic, or ovate-lanceolate, with serrated margins; verticillasters are axillary; calyx is tubular-campanulate; corolla is pale purple; stamens are 4, filaments are glabrous, anthers are ovoid; style slightly exceeds the stamens; disc is flat-topped; nutlets are ovoid, yellowish-brown. Flowering occurs from July to September, and fruiting in October.

Mint originated in central and eastern Siberia, extending to China, Japan, and North America. In China, mint cultivation began as early as 220-280 AD. Over a century ago, small-scale cultivation existed in Jiangxi and Jiangsu provinces, particularly in Ji'an and Nanchang in Jiangxi. Since 1962, it has been introduced and cultivated in many regions of China, now found in almost every province. In particular, Taihe County in Anhui Province maintained a stable mint planting area of around 250,000 mu (approximately 16,667 hectares) in the 1990s, accounting for about one-third of China's total planting area. Its mint oil production reached 2,000 tons, accounting for one-quarter of China's total output, and the oil was of exceptionally high quality, earning it the reputation of "Asian mint is in China, and Chinese mint is in Taihe." According to incomplete statistics, at its peak, China's mint planting area was approximately 1 million mu (approximately 66,667 hectares).

Application

Mint extract is typically used to flavor foods and beverages. It has a strong, refreshing taste with a cool, aromatic profile, often used in baking, cocktails, and desserts. Mint extract is made by infusing mint leaves in alcohol, which captures the essence and flavor of the herb. It's a convenient way to add a minty touch without the need for fresh mint.
