Product Description

Propylene Glycol Alginate Powder

What is Propylene Glycol Alginate Powder ?

Propylene glycol alginate, also known as propylene glycol alginate, is an alginate compound composed of partially esterified carboxyl groups with propylene glycol and partially neutralized carboxyl groups with alkali.

It is produced through the deep processing of alginic acid extracted from natural seaweed. It appears as a white or pale yellow powder, which dissolves in water to form a viscous colloid. It is commonly used as a thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier in beverage products.

Feature

Stable Emulsification and Thickening under Acidic Conditions: Propylene glycol alginate maintains stable viscosity in acidic systems with a pH of 3-4, and is not prone to colloidal hydrolysis or precipitation. Its hydrophobic propylene glycol groups can adsorb onto the surface of oil droplets, while its hydrophilic polysaccharide chains extend into the aqueous phase, forming a stable oil-in-water emulsion.

Salt Resistance and Anti-gelling Properties: Unlike ordinary sodium alginate, its esterified structure resists gelation caused by metal ions such as calcium and magnesium, making it suitable for hard water systems with high mineral content or salty foods.

Foam Stabilization and Suspension Function: Enhances foam persistence and fineness, commonly used in carbonated or foamy products such as beer and milkshakes. Its three-dimensional network structure effectively suspends solid particles such as fruit pulp and spices.

Film Forming and Moisturizing Effects: After drying, it forms a flexible film, used as a surface coating for food to lock in moisture; in skincare products, it acts as a moisturizer to slow down moisture evaporation.

Applications

Stabilization of Acidic Beverages and Dairy Products:As a stabilizer in yogurt, lactic acid bacteria beverages, and flavored milk, it prevents protein precipitation and whey separation; used in acidic drinks such as fruit juices and vinegar beverages, it maintains system homogeneity and improves smoothness.

Baking and Condiment Improvement: As an emulsifier and thickener in salad dressings and acidic fruit fillings, it prevents oil-water separation; used in baked goods fillings, it improves heat resistance and water retention.

Beer and Foamed Beverages: As a beer foam stabilizer, it prolongs foam retention time and enhances the "legs" effect; used in products such as milk tea and sparkling water, it stabilizes the top foam layer.

Daily Chemical and Pharmaceutical Applications:As a binder and stabilizer in toothpaste and mouthwash, it prevents solid-liquid separation; used in tablet coatings or cream bases, it improves formulation stability; used in skincare products as a mild gelling agent and emulsifier.
