What is TBHQ Powder?   

Food-grade tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) is a highly effective synthetic phenolic antioxidant. It appears as a white crystalline powder, insoluble in water but readily soluble in oils and fats. As one of the most outstanding oil and fat antioxidants in the modern food industry, its antioxidant effect is 5 to 7 times stronger than traditional BHA and BHT.

Feature

Highly Effective Antioxidant and Delays Oil Rancidity: TBHQ effectively blocks the chain reaction of oil oxidation, significantly increasing the antioxidant stability of edible oils by 3 to 5 times. This significantly prevents food from developing a rancid taste, thus extending the shelf life of oily foods such as fried foods, cooking oils, and nuts.


Inhibits the Growth of Multiple Microorganisms: In addition to its antioxidant function, TBHQ also has strong antibacterial activity, effectively inhibiting the proliferation of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, as well as molds such as Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus niger.


High Thermal Stability without Affecting Food Quality: TBHQ is heat-resistant and maintains stable performance under high-temperature processing conditions such as frying, continuously exerting its antioxidant effect. Furthermore, it does not change color when exposed to metal ions such as iron and copper, effectively preserving the original color and flavor of food.


Applications

Edible oils and fried foods TBHQ is particularly suitable for the production and processing of vegetable oils, animal fats, and fried foods (such as instant noodles and potato chips), effectively preventing oil deterioration caused by oxidation during storage and frying. 


Baking and Nuts & Grains Products  Adding TBHQ to cookies, pastries, bread, and products such as nuts and sunflower seeds helps prevent rancidity caused by high oil content, thereby better preserving the original crisp texture and aroma of the products. 


Meat and aquatic product processing When added to cured meat products (such as bacon and ham) and dried or dehydrated aquatic products, it inhibits fat oxidation, prevents the development of rancid odor, and helps maintain the original color of meat products.
